Haze in Singapore This Week: Indoor Plans for Families at Home (October 2026)

Updated October 2026. The haze has kept air quality in the unhealthy range across Singapore for days, and many families are spending more time indoors. For the latest PSI readings and advice, check the NEA haze page and HealthHub.

If the plan is to stay in, here are nine ideas that work in an HDB flat or a condo, for kids and adults alike.

1. Turn the living room into a cinema

Close the curtains, switch the lights off and put a film on the biggest wall you have. A 100-inch picture turns an ordinary afternoon into an outing, without leaving home. A smooth, light-coloured wall works; a projector screen gives cleaner colour.

Make it feel like a real cinema: print simple "tickets" for the kids, make popcorn, and let each person pick one film or series episode.

2. Camp in the living room

Build a fort from bedsheets, chairs and pillows, add fairy lights, and read or watch cartoons inside it. Kids love having their own small space on a long day indoors.

3. Put the stars on the ceiling at bedtime

Some projectors can point straight up, so you can show a starry sky, an aquarium or a slow nature video on the bedroom ceiling while the kids wind down. CROWN lies on its back to face the ceiling, and Eva Vela 360 tilts up from a bedside table.

4. Move indoors

With outdoor play off the table, kids still need to burn energy. Put a dance-along or kids' workout video on a big screen and follow along together. Clear the coffee table first.

5. Family karaoke night

Pull up karaoke videos on YouTube, hand out a hairbrush "microphone", and take turns. Lyrics are much easier for everyone to follow on a large picture.

6. Board games and puzzles

A long jigsaw on the dining table, a card game tournament, or a classic board game with a points table on the fridge. Simple, screen-free, and good for all ages.

7. Cook something together

Make pizza from scratch, bake cookies, or let the kids build their own wraps. Younger children can measure and mix; older ones can follow a recipe on their own.

8. Arts, crafts and simple science

Paint, make paper planes and test which flies furthest, or try a baking-soda volcano at the kitchen sink. Keep an old tablecloth handy.

9. Watch the match together

Weekend football or a big game feels like an event on a large picture. Invite family who live nearby, cook some snacks, and make an afternoon of it.

Making a big-screen movie night work in a Singapore home

  • Room light: draw the curtains. Hazy days are often bright and grey outside, and a picture looks richer with the lights off.
  • Picture size: for most HDB living rooms, 80 to 100 inches suits the sofa distance well. In a bedroom, 60 to 80 inches is plenty.
  • Apps: a projector with Netflix and YouTube built in means no extra box or cables.
  • Sound: a built-in speaker is fine for cartoons; for films, connect a soundbar.

Questions

What can kids do at home during the haze?
Indoor movie afternoons, living-room camping, dance-along videos, board games, cooking and simple crafts all work well in a flat. Mix active and quiet activities to fill a long day.

How do I check the haze and PSI today?
The NEA haze page has the latest readings and advisories. Follow NEA and HealthHub for health advice.

Can I project a movie onto a plain wall?
Yes. A smooth, white or light-coloured wall works well. A projector screen gives cleaner colour and contrast.

Can I see projectors set up before I buy?
Yes. Our showroom is indoors at Sim Lim Square #05-55, next to Rochor MRT, open daily 11am to 8pm. Every model is set up so you can compare them on a real wall.
